All About Aaron

Aaron has an extensive background which makes him the most uniquely qualified candidate to be your next state senator from the 35th District. Not only is he rooted in the community, but he has built relationships and connections from the Georgia State Capitol to the White House—relationships that will produce positive action and results for the people who call South Fulton and East Douglas counties home.

A testament of Aaron’s abilities was his election as a Georgia delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2008. His influence, actions and his vote on the convention floor in Denver last year helped nominate and ultimately elect President Barack Obama.

Aaron has also been a major player locally and has never forgotten where he came from. Whether it is his work with the school system, his community involvement or his work with various political leaders across the state, Aaron has been someone who has truly lived by the advice of his grandmother, “Always leave things better than you found them.”

Born in the small South Georgia town of Moultrie, Aaron was raised by a single mother, but he was fortunate to have a very supportive family that would always encourage him to excel no matter the circumstances. With that as his foundation, Aaron was always involved in several school leadership groups and various organizations in his church. After graduating from high school, Aaron attended Morris Brown College where he graduated with a degree in Legal Studies.

While in college, Aaron got his introduction to public service as a legislative intern. He worked “under the Gold Dome” in the House of Representatives for then Representative Bob Holmes. Working in the General Assembly gave Aaron the opportunity to learn first-hand how the Capitol is run and how to effectively serve the people of the 35th District.

After graduating from college, Aaron began a career of public service under the tutelage of elected officials which included former Secretary of State Lewis Massey, Attorney General Thurbert Baker, Mayor Shirley Franklin and former Governor Roy Barnes. Having worked with a group of dynamic and innovative officials, Aaron had the opportunity to watch and learn how to make tough but sound decisions that make government do what it is supposed to do, work for you!

After his time learning the ins and outs of government, Aaron went on to become the government affairs manager for a national doctors’ association, the American College of Rheumatology. In this position Aaron was responsible for not only analyzing and monitoring legislation in Congress, but he also managed the association’s grass roots efforts.

Currently, Aaron serves the citizens of Fulton County as the community policy administrator for Commission Chairman John Eaves. In this position Aaron is the liaison for the chairman in the community. He also monitors legislation at the State Capitol that has a direct effect on the constituents which he represents.

Aaron, a father of two now, is dedicated to the children of his community and their education. He is a member of the Stonewall Tell Elementary PTA, as well as a volunteer with the school’s Local School Advisory Council (LSAC) and a member of “All Pro Dads.” Through his work in the schools, he was asked by the Fulton County Schools superintendent to serve on her Community Council, which is a council of parents, community and business leaders who provide input on school policy and direction. Aaron is also very active in his home-owners’ association and truly enjoys being a Cub Scout dad!

The biggest joy for Aaron is his family. His wife, Alanna (Jackson), is an adjunct professor at Atlanta Metropolitan College. The Johnsons enjoy the happiness of each day through the energetic spirit of 13 year old daughter, Cierra and 7 year old son, Miles. Aaron and his family attend St. Philip A.M.E. Church in Atlanta.
